Summary:
Works with Cherokee Nation service departments, Cherokee Nation administration and local, regional and national media to protect, promote and preserve the positive image of the Cherokee Nation and its citizens.
Responds to social media inquiries, contributes to message development and collaborates on proactive social media strategy development and analytics.
Job Duties:
Writes and posts public relations copy for Cherokee Nation's social media accounts.
Research social media analytics, trends and preferences among targeted audience.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge regarding changes and/or newly developed social media platforms.
Ensures maximum effectiveness of Cherokee Nation's social media platform.
Responds to social media requests.
Assists the department with photography, video for various news releases and social media communications outreach.
Collaborates with other members of communications staff on social media campaigns and strategies.
Helps facilitate public events such as news conferences, luncheons, groundbreaking, open houses, receptions, etc.
and helps publicize those events on Cherokee Nation social media channels.
Works and communicates effectively with a diverse group of external stakeholders and internal clients.
Disseminates tribe's news releases via social media outlets.
Works to implement strategy set by Communications Executive Director and Deputy Director of Communications.
Assists in social media training of internal clients and program directors.
Consults with departments to plan social media needs, strategies and campaigns.
Other Communications projects as assigned.
Must be flexible and open to occasionally working nights, weekends, holidays and special events, including travel as needed.
Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES No supervisory responsibility.
Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT Bachelors degree from a 4-year college or university in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, or related field; no substitutions.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT At least three (3) years of experience in a related field.
COMPUTER SKILLSAn individual should know Database software, Design software, Internet software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must possess a valid drivers license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONSThe employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
Proficient and up to date with current social media skills and tactics, smartphone photo and video editing skills preferred.
Strong writing and public speaking skills and knowledge of crisis communication procedures.
Knowledge of AP Style is a must.
Adobe Photoshop skills preferred.
Skills in Public Relations distribution software (such as Meltwater, Vocus, etc.
preferred.
Working knowledge of newsroom environment preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit.
The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
